  The purpose of the shelter would be to give the citizens of Columbia and Maury County another shelter for all to enjoy and use.  It would compliment the Amphitheater by having a covered shelter near by that would allow people to be under shelter and still enjoy the theater, instead of the current shelters that are out of site of the Amphitheater.  We also hope to continually build and improve this area by installing  many other amenities (restrooms, walking track and some play ground equipment etc. The shelter would honor the men and (any future men and women) who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the citizens of Columbia and Maury County. It would also attract people to the park and especially this area so that we can educate future generations of the community.

  The Larry Whitwell Memorial fund was started in late 2004 and since that time several Law Enforcement Officers (THP Larkins and THP Jenks) were killed in the line of duty.   This shelter is to honor and memorialize all Law Enforcment Officers killed or who have died while wearing the uniform and badge and who have served this community or have ties to Maury County . 

If by accident I have forgotten someone PLEASE let me know and I will correct this mistake as soon as possible.  I am continually researching to have a correct list and appreciate any and all suggestions.

We hope to build a shelter similar to this shelter, 1500-2000 square foot under roof and we will constantly continue to improve the site. The shelter would be build left of the flag pole in the picture above. This shelter was built in a nearby park by another private group.
